Since when does a specific day of the week determine whether a decision is Democratic or Republican? Honestly, its just silly.
I agree with moving the voting day to the weekend. Due to peoples jobs, schooling or other conflicting events during the week, a lot of people can't make it to the voting booths near them. However, if the voting booths were open on, let's say, on Saturday, then a lot more votes would come forth in light of less hectic schedules.
Wow why tuesday seams to be a big orginaziation. I never thought it mattered to much which day it was on because i haven't be able to vote but i think people would be even busier to vote on saterday
I think we should move the election days onto Saturday. If that happened, people would no longer have the excuse of going to work or school, and the lines being long after work, to not vote. I believe it would give everyone a better chance at voting. More people would vote, and get their opinion out there.
I feel it wont make a difference if we moved it because I'm not in the party that supports or disowns that party I have my opinions and mine are "don't care" So I think it would be democratic because the party that wants to change the election day has all of the rights granted to them as much as the most popular two parties Democrats and Republicans
I think that this whole concept is hilarious. It's just really funny that with all the changes and laws our government creates, one of the most fundamental things in the nation has gone unchecked for so long. I also noticed that three of the people that were so for changing this law are in positions of power right now... and yet, nothing has changed.
In a sense i think it would because it would make it easier to vote for people who work during the week and dont get a chance to vote. On the other hand there are still people who work on the weekends so they wouldnt get a chance to vote so the arguent can go either way just depending on how many people it would inconvenience.
Over the past 10 elections our country averaged, just below, half voter turnout of eligible voters. That’s abysmal for a city that considers itself to be politically savvy. Less than half of our population is participating in the democratic process; electing our leaders, and making important decisions for the future of our country. There’s no silver bullet that will magically ensure 100% voter participation, but the decision to hold our elections on Tuesdays is one that was made 150 years ago in a different era. It was a Judeo-Christian society where individuals would have their days of worship on the weekends, pack up their horse and buggy on Monday, and travel into town squares to conduct their business, which included voting. The founding fathers decided 150 years ago to host elections when it was convenient for people to vote, but today, how is hosting an election mid-week in any way convenient? Are we encouraging people to participate in the democratic process by hosting elections on a day when families have numerous obligations? Changing elections to a day where people have fewer obligations is a step our country can take towards making voting and participation in our democratic process more accessible, and I hope it’s a step they are willing take.
I think that changing the voting day to a weekend is a great idea. A lot of people can't vote on Tuesday's because they have to go to work and can't take a day off. The whole country can't request that day off to vote, so the date should be changed. A weekend day would be much more convenient for people to be able to vote. It's not fair really that so many people don't get to vote because of an old tradition that used to be convenient but isn't anymore.
Moving election day to the weekend may benefit some while affecting others at the same time. There is no way to be "more democratic" by moving election day to a different day. Any day election day is on, there will be conflicts for different people. Some people work hourly jobs on weekends exclusively and consequently is harder to get off to vote, giving the white collar class an advantage at the polls because of the usual weekends off they enjoy.
I feel that if we do make voting a national holidy it would be better because we can keep the tradition by voting on tuesdays and ppl can get off work to vote. Some ppl said in the video they work seven days a week everyweek. Those people wont be able to vote on weekends. But if we make it a holiday they will be able to.
I feel that we don't need to move Election Day to the weekend because its been sort of a tradition, since the 1800s, to have it on a Tuesday. If its worked well for this long, why change it? Sure it would probably be better for some people in the long run, so that way they won't miss out on voting because of their jobs. But that's what absentee voting is for, so if your not able to participate on the usual Tuesday election day, then you can vote early.
Changing the voting day from Tuesday to Saturday would make it more conveineint because most people are in school or have to go to work on Tuesdays. But changing it might also cause that Saturday to be the most hectic of the year because everyone will be able to drive and vote since Saturdays are free for people.
Changing the election day from Tuesday to Saturday would surely enable more people to vote, allowing the working class to vote, and even the young 18 year olds who are still in school. I believe this is in favor of the people that they change the day, and not to be considered a more democratic quality. Making the idea a more majority quality than anything else.
people would vote less.. because on saturday, they make a plan to do on weekend such as picnic or camping. but, on tuesday, we go to work and we could vote on the way while go to their working place like, 'oh, boss, i gotta vote today so can i get an hour off to vote?"
